SYMPOSIUM ‘THE WORLD OF THE BENTINCKS’

portraits of a European noble family

18 november 2016

This autumn the digital finding aid of the important and most interesting Bentinck family archive (15th-19th century) will be completed. With the completion of this finding aid Menoucha Ruitenberg finishes her work at the Gelders Archief. So much the better reason to organize a symposium, dedicated to ‘The World of the Bentincks’.

Researchers from The Netherlands and other European countries will illustrate the crossborder character of the Bentinck family throughout the centuries. In the afternoon session special attention will be given to the role and position of Charlotte Sophie Reichsgräfin von Aldenburg (1715-1800), who in 1733 married Willem Reichsgraf von Bentinck (1704-1774).

The Gelders Archief and Landgoed Middachten are delighted to invite you to take part in this symposium, which will be held on 18 november 2016 at Middachten.

Fred van Kan, managing director, Gelders Archief (Arnhem)
Graf und Gräfin Franz zu Ortenburg (Middachten)
